W. Va. is experimenting with a
new rule that
lets teams exempt 1 game from their point ratings.
24 state teams are doing this, including
two who are
exempting games with the defending state champion Bluefield Beavers.
Some coaches were
caught off-guard when the state-wide list was published
Further info :
The ‘exempted’ games are only for the point ratings, not the overall record,
so they won’t have an effect on the Va. power ratings.
W. Va. uses a 12/9/6 and 1 point system like Va., but W.Va. doesn’t play OT,
so they also have a points scale for games which end in a tie.
W. Va. playoff teams are determined by which 16 teams across the state (in each
of the 3 Groups) have the highest point ratings at the end of the season
(districts / regions plays no part in this). The seeding is like the NCAA
basketball regionals . . . the winner of #1 vs. #16 plays the winner of #8 vs.
#9, etc.
W. Va. team schedules are available through
one of the WVSSAC pages, but you have to know what
classification the school is in.
